Padre Pio Holy Bread???
Have you guys heard about it? My mom and friend got this sheet of paper which explains what to do with some dough for 10 days. Pray a novena for 3 days, dont touch the dough for 3 days, bake the dough, eat it, make 3 other doughs then give it to three other people. I'm trying to tell my mom it is all just scam and nothing else. This bread is called Hernim, and it is suppose to bring good luck to the family. I don't believe in these things! i think its some sort of a chain letter... i have told my mom to stop the chain and throw away the dough... Any comments?
thanks guys
Answer:
Rituals like that are intended to spark a deeper part of the psyche and soul. We are supposed to nourish and 'feed' others, but without a promised reward. What you give out comes back to you. So if one who is a 'saint' gave out 3 loaves...well they wouldn't stop at 3 loaves!! And they also wouldn't believe or even care that they'd be bestowed with 'good luck.' A saint would be rewarded instantly -- in the giving. It would be unconditional -- with no wishes for ANYTHING in return. So the saint is the only one who'd get the blessings back (because they'd recognize the 'reward' in the giving itself). Baking bread and giving loaves, no matter how many novenas are recited, will not bring blessings if its done to get blessings, or 'points' or admiration or luck
. Spirituality doesn't work that way.
